National Privacy Commission warns public of new scheme on stealing card info

Authorities have warned public of a new modus of stealing card information without using a skimming device.

The National Privacy Commission (NPC) said cashiers are allegedly cohorts of suspects in getting details of card number owners such as the name, expiry date, CVV number — important details to process online shopping transactions.

NPC head Raymund Liboro said the photo of the front and back portion of the credit card are just needed to get the details, as per a report from ABS-CBN.

NPC released the warning after a suspect identified as ‘Jose Borbon’ admitted the said modus or credit card fraud of his group.

Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) said they have received at least 20 complaints of unauthorized use credit cards.
