Dubai police bust ‘car test’ gang

Dubai’s police busted a four-man Asian ring involved in taking bribery to pass failing vehicles requiring tests for registration renewal.

The four, who work at a government car test facility in Warsan, have passed a total 660 vehicles although they all have failed previous examination after they were found unfit and unsafe for roads.

Acting on a tip-off, police sent an undercover pretending that he had a car that had failed the test and wanted it to pass for registration.

Newspapers said the undercover was asked to pay Dh250 for the service and when one of the defendants was handed the money, police swooped on the facility and arrested the four, who later confessed to the crime.

“They were passing an average 10 cars a day… all the cars passed by the four had failed previous tests as they were unsafe for the road,” a police statement said.
