Police firing at dog accidentally kills woman

A police officer fatally shot a 30-year-old woman in what was described by authorities as a tragic incident in Arlington, Texas.

The policeman was trying to shoot a dog but hit the woman instead.

The fatality was identified as Margarita Victoria Brooks, who suffered a gunshot wound in the upper right torso.

The woman was believed to be the owner of the dog.

According to the Arlington Police Department, the police officer responded to a call about woman lying unresponsive in a grassy area.

The Arlington police had released the footage of the policeman’s body-worn camera.

Based on the video footage, the police officer called out on the woman to check her condition.

As the policeman tried to walk toward the woman, a dog charged at the policeman while barking.

The police officer fired at least three shots forcing the dog to retreat

After the gunshots, the woman was heard shouting. The woman was taken to a hospital where she later died.

The Arlington police said administrative and criminal investigations are ongoing.

Though his name was not released yet, the policeman involved was identified as a 25-year-old Asian American, who joined the police department in 2012.

The dog, which was turned over to an animal shelter in Arlington, was described to be a Labrador mixed breed weighing 40 pounds, the Arlington police said.
