HK authorities arrest Filipino during Saturday protest

Hong Kong Police arrested a Filipino during a protest action in Mongkok, Saturday.

GMA News reported that the Filipino was identified as Jethro Pioquinto and has been working in Hong Kong Disneyland.

Reports say that Pioquinto was just passing by the street where the mass action was being held when authorities nabbed him.

Pioquinto remains under police custody and is being detained at Hong Kong Point Police Station.

“To all my Filipino and EXPAT friends
Hong Kong police just arrested our pinoy friend who’s not joining the protest but just passing by Mongkok, and the police knocked him down and arrested him! I watched the whole thing during live stream !!!!!” Pioquinto’s friend Jacky JKJuntaro posted on Facebook.

A lawyers’ group assisting protesters the police have arrested was quoted as saying that the Pinoy’s detention at the NPPS is against Hong Kong’s law.

Pioquinto is now requesting the assistance of the Philippine consulate in Hong Kong and medical assistance after the police hit him.
