Omani driver in Dubai bus crash released on bail

The driver of the bus involved in a major crash that killed 17 individuals including a Filipina was released on bail, according to the Oman Embassy.

Dubai Court of Appeal has granted the bail request of Saeed Al Baloushi, 53.

The Omani national said that he drove the vehicle that crashed into a barrier last June 6.

His defense lawyers blamed Dubai transport authorities for placing metal barriers in the highway.

The driver was sentenced for seven years and ordered to pay Dh3.4 million compensation.

“The Oman Embassy in Abu Dhabi is pleased to announce that Dubai Court of Appeal has agreed in a hearing today to bail Saeed Al Baloushi, the Omani bus driver for Oman Transport Agency, until a date is scheduled for the hearing of defence lawyers,” the embassy said in a statement

The bus was carrying 30 passengers from Muscat and during the Eid Al Fitr holiday.
