Abu Dhabi gave the green light to companies to rent out e-scooters, which can be used on pedestrian and bicycle lanes to help decongest traffic.
Authorities said that Corniche and Khalifa Street will pilot the initial trial for e-scooter lanes.
Companies who may be interested to do rent out services can apply for a certificate and licenses to operate at the Integrated Transport Centre.
The speed allowed for scooters is15 to 20 kmph.
“E-scooters are considered an efficient environmental friendly means of transport for daily commutes and will link different public bus stations to main destinations like shopping malls, facilities and residential areas,” transport officials said in a statement.
