Sotto reelected as Senate President

Senator Tito Sotto retains his post as Senate President during the opening session of the 18th Congress.

Lawmakers voted viva voce to support his continuing leadership in the Senate.

Sotto started his Senate Presidency on May 2018 replacing PDP-Laban senator Koko
Pimentel.

Sotto said he is confident that he has the full trust of colleagues after lawmakers initially floated that neophyte senators may choose Senator Cynthia Villar instead.

The Senate President held a meeting with senators on July 20 and announcing that all issues have been settled including Senate committee chairmanships.

“Thank you’ is a very weak sense of gratitude of what I feel today,” Sotto said.

Sotto the assured that the Senate under his leadership will be ‘cooperative’ but independent.
