‘No more house coup?’ Alan Peter Cayetano meets with Paolo Duterte

Taguig Representative Alan Peter Cayetano has revealed that presidential son and Davao City representative Paolo Duterte agreed to be a deputy speaker for political affairs.

The meeting and the decision came after coup rumors floated by the presidential son.

Paolo said that Cayetano’s speakership bid isn’t yet a guarantee not until July 22 or during the opening of the 18th Congress.

President Rodrigo Duterte backed Cayetano’s speakership. Half of the term will shared with Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco.

Cayetano on Friday posted a photo on Facebook where he and Duterte are seen shaking hands and discussed how the Lower House could be more responsive.

“Thank you very much Cong. Paolo ‘Pulong’ Duterte for our talk on what the country needs and how we can put together a very responsive Congress. Thank you also for accepting the challenge for being the next Deputy Speaker for Political Affairs,” Cayetano said.

Paolo together with sister Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte formed the ‘Duterte Coalition’ to unify the House amid division on the Speakership post.

Paolo even expressed his intention to join the race but dropped out of the race after his meeting with the President.
