Were you able to look up and marvel at the partial eclipse of the moon on Tuesday night?
Stargazers across the UAE and even around the world were awed as the earth’s shadow swept across 60 percent of the moon.
According to a report by the daily, The National, the eclipse began at 11 p.m. and lasted for about five hours.
But why did the moon have a reddish tone?
Illias Fernini, deputy director of the Sharjah Centre for Astronomy and Space Sciences, said that the tone was the light coming from the sun.
When part of the moon is inside the Earth’s shadow, this scatters.
He added that only the light with red color can pass through the Earth’s atmosphere.
If you missed it last night, there won’t be any more of it until another total eclipse of the moon occurs on May 26, 2021.
