Turkey’s foreign ministry has confirmed the death of one of its diplomat from the consulate in the Iraqi Kurdish city of Erbil after being shot by unknown gunmen.
According to a report from The Independent, the shooting happened in a restaurant in the city where several Turkish officials were having a meal on Wednesday.
Ibrahim Kalin, a spokesperson for Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, called it a “treacherous attack” adding that they will also give the “necessary response”.
In a separate report from The National, Sarkwat Shamsi, an Iraqi member of the parliament said there was a total of four people shot including the deputy consul.
The motive of the shooting was still unknown as of this writing.
