Sara Duterte to skip father’s 4th SONA

Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will not be attending her father, President Rodrigo Duterte’s fourth State of The Nation Address or SONA on Monday, July 22.

In a text message sent to reporters, Sara explained she is in a 60-day special medical leave.

“I’m on special medical leave for 60 days,” Sara said.

Sara attended her father’s SONA last year together with her mother Elizabeth Zimmerman.

The presidential daughter became a driving force at the House of Representatives after her father revealed her involvement in last year’s house coup that removed former House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez from his post.

The matters at the lower house remain to be settled even after the President’s endorsement of term-sharing between Taguig Representative Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco. Some lawmakers believe that a potential coup could still happen on SONA day.
