Isko Moreno inspects ‘dugyot’ Tondo slaughterhouse, orders clean up

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno made an ocular inspection of a Vita, Tondo slaughterhouse in Manila.

Traffic marred Moreno’s visit to the area. He saw firsthand the unhygienic, dirty situation of the slaughterhouse.

The animal’s holding area is also surrounded with garbage.

“Tingnan mo ang mga baka natin oh, mura na marumi pa. Talagang kahabag-habag naman ang sitwasyon dito,” Moreno said.

The slaughterhouse is the primary source of meat products like beef, cow and horse meat.

Moreno wants to make Vitas slaughterhouse renovated and comply with hygienic standards.

“What we are after is that the people of Manila who will buy meat ay binibigyan ng kasiguraduhan na ang mga karneng ito ay malinis ang pamamaraan ng pagkatay,” Moreno added.

Some 27 housing units will also be under the rehabilitation program together with the slaughterhouse in Vitas.

Around 4,000 to 5,000 residents will be affected by this move.
