President Rodrigo Duterte said that he will not face an international court to defend his policies on the war against illegal drugs.
“Look, as I have told you before, ladies and gentlemen of the world, I will only face, be tried or face a trial in a Philippine court. Presided by a Filipino judge. Prosecuted by a Filipino. Maybe they can reimpose death penalty and die in Filipino land,” Duterte said in an interview with Sonshine Media Network.
Duterte slammed ‘caucasian’ individuals who would attempt to put him trial.
“You must be stupid. Who are you? I am a Filipino. We have our courts here. You have to bring me somewhere else? I would not like that. I have my country. It’s working. Justice is working here,” Duterte added.
Duterte ordered the country’s withdrawal from the International Criminal Court last year.
A United Nations resolution signed by 18 countries was adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council seeking a probe on the country’s human rights situation.
