Duterte says increasing presence of Chinese workers in PH not a threat

President Rodrigo Duterte said he’s still resisting the attempt to comment on the rise of Chinese workers present in the country.

In an interview with Sunshine Media Network, Duterte emphasized that the reason why he’s holding back his comments is because of the presence of 400,000 Filipinos working there in China.

This was his reaction when asked about his views about their increasing presence in the country.

“According to the Chinese, the ones that are here are the illegal, hindi naman entry. Illegally prolonging their stay and working odd jobs dito,” he said.

He added that their presence doesn’t pose any threat to the country.

The increasing presence of Chinese tourists was felt since last year as online gaming operations started to boom here.

In mainland China, gambling is not allowed which is why operators have set up Philippine offshore gaming companies and hire Chinese workers to cater their Chinese market.

The Department of Justice, however, will start probing the involvement of several immigration officials for helping Chinese workers breeze through the immigration process at the airports.
