LOOK: PH Navy intercepts P12M worth of smuggled rice

At least P12-million worth of smuggled rice was intercepted on Friday in Lampinigan Island, Basilan Province, according to the Naval Forces Western Mindanao.

Naval Task Force 61 (NTF 61) intercepted M/L Jehan, a Jungkung-type watercraft, that was loaded with 10,000 sacks of rice.

The vessel that had 10 crew onboard came from Labuan, Malaysia. Its port of destination was Zamboanga City.

Based on an investigation, the said shipment of rice did not have legal importation documents.

The vessel was then escorted to Ensign Majini Pier (EMP), Naval Station Romulo Espaldon in Bagong Calarian, Zamboanga City for documentation before it will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs.
