Emirates Post warns against free cellphone scam

The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong warning against fake promotions offering free smartphones.

Emirates Post posted on Twitter a statement and warning to its residents that no government office is offering free cellphones.

A fake online link is circulating that asks for customers’ personal information to participate in a contest/draw where they could win a Samsung S10.

Emirates Post said that they are now working with a cybersecurity team to solve the matter.

The agency says residents should be careful and not to engage in these promotions or giving their personal information.

Emirates Post added that they are not liable for anything.

Violation of UAE Cybercrime Law includes penalties with fines ranging between Dh50,000 and Dh3 million depending on the type and severity of offence.
