US Embassy denies ‘stunning’ State Department exec is next Manila envoy

The US Embassy in Manila today denied that its current envoy to Manila will be replaced by State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary Mina Chang.

Chang, 32, who currently serves in the Department of State’s Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations, was rumored to replace outgoing envoy Sung Kim on Tuesday.

“We’ve seen this claim. It is not true,” an embassy statement said.

“In September 2018, the White House announced the President’s intent to nominate Mina Chang to be an Assistant Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development for the Bureau of Asia. The nomination was referred to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in January 2019.”

“There have been no additional White House announcements regarding her nomination to the USAID position,” the embassy noted.

Rumors of Chang being the next envoy to the Philippines was met with enthusiasm from the local media and netizens with her list of achievements and stunning good looks. She is also of Asian-American descent like Sung Kim.
