Manila to roll out ‘nutribun’ program in 2020

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno told his officials that funds should be allocated for the return of the “nutribun” program starting next year for elementary students.

The free fortified bread was a 1970s project during the administration of then President Ferdinand Marcos, which aimed to combat malnutrition for kids studying in public schools.

“Sabi ko gawan na ng pondo para maisakutaparan na yung isang commitment natin addressing malnutrition or nutrition program for our elementary students, particularly with our kindergarten and those in Grade 1 at the very least,” Moreno said.

Moreno added that they are gathering data to determine the number of students to be included in the program.

“Para mapatupad na natin if not this year then at least next year, early next year, mailapat na yung programa natin na papaharap sa mga batang Maynila yung Nutribun,” Moreno explained.
