A lawmaker from the House of Representatives is pushing for a bill at the lower house that will ban school classes to start earlier than 8:30 in the morning.
Bacolod Representative Greg Gasataya filed House Bill 569 which aims to prevent schools from starting their school hours earlier than 8:30AM.
“State of transportation, amount of workload under the new K-12 curriculum, the state of mental health in the country, and accessibility of schools especially in rural areas which are just some of the conditions prejudicial to the health and safety of Filipino students,” the bill explained.
The lawmaker said that it is the duty of the State to ensure that the physical, mental, and social well-being of students should always be prioritized.
The bill also hopes to emulate school practices in other countries, which would make students more productive due to starting school hours late.
The new bill, if signed into law, will also help parents to attend to their children.
