Woman succumbs to methanol poisoning, friend in comatose after suspected consumption of FDA-unapproved drink

Two women fell into a coma after their drinking session in Maginhawa Street Quezon city.

The women were victims of methanol poisoning. One of the two women has already died while the other is still in the hospital, as per a report from ABS-CBN News.

The tweet about those women went viral in twitter where some netizen pointed the ‘Cosmic Carabao Gin’ as the cause of the poison.

The Food and Drug Administration has confirmed that the victims were brought to National Kidney and Transplant Institute.

According to the report, “methanol poisoning” was the clerical impression of the doctors.

FDA said the “Cosmic Carabao Gin” has no certificate of product registration yet and is not allowed in the market yet.

The FDA already issued a notice of violation to the company because of the selling of the said product. The office is now investigating on the samples of the gin and how it is processed.

In a message to GMA News, Juan Brew, the makers of the Cosmic Carabao Gin, said that they’re currently looking into the case of the two women and affirms that they follow the highest standards when making their products.
