Dubai businesses laud ‘Golden Card’

DUBAI: Major businesses have lauded the “Golden Card” initiative launched recently by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, which grants permanent residency benefits to investors, entrepreneurs, specialized talents, researchers, and outstanding students.

Some 400 business owners across Dubai already have their passports stamped with the Golden Card after having applied and received the visa, which has a 10-year renewable validity, in just a matter of minutes.

Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al-Marri, director of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) told a press conference held to announce the initiative that the program provides a conducive climate of ease for entrepreneurs as well as other qualified categories.

“We are lucky to be here in the UAE, a promising place to invest in,” he said.

Said Shamlal Ahamed, Malabar Gold and Diamonds managing director: “It is giving us lots of confidence to invest in the UAE.” Malabat Golds and Diamonds opened business in Dubai 11 years ago.

For his part, Vijay Samyani, Chairman, Concept Brands Group, a company dealing with more than 300 worldwide luxury brands, said: “I am extremely thankful for this recognition. A special thanks to the leaders of UAE as this appreciation definitely motivates us to grow more in Dubai and fulfil our dreams in this growing part of the world.

“We have enhanced our business over the years by starting an online division ‘brandsbay.com’ and increasing our retail presence ‘brands4u’ across all the Emirates.”

Other businesses whose owners have received their Golden Card includes Danube and Landmark Group of Companies.

The Golden Card offers unprecedented benefits to the cardholders and their families, while creating an attractive environment for business and growth.

The new permanent residency initiative has identified the first 6,800 qualified expats from over 70 countries, to benefit from the Golden Card scheme’s unprecedented benefits.

The Golden Card will be granted to qualifying investors, entrepreneurs, professional talents, researchers in various fields of science and knowledge, and outstanding students. The new initiative will attract greater foreign investment and stimulate the local economy, making it more efficient and attractive for investors. It will also increase UAE’s competitiveness and reaffirms country’s position as a global incubator.

The current investments of the identified 6,800 residents are estimated at AED100 billion.
