Lawmakers from the Makabayan block composed of Kabataan, Gabriela, Bayan Muna and ACT Teachers Party-lists want a mandatory subject to teach the life and works of the revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio.
“Andres Bonifacio is considered a national hero, alongside Jose Rizal. He was often referred as the Father of Philippine Revolution,” the bill said.
Bonifacio’s works will be taught to secondary and college students, as the bill suggests, making it similar to the ongoing Rizal studies taken during the same years.
“The Andres Bonifacio Act of 2019 will provide a course on the life, works and ideals of Bonifacio which will he included in the curricula of all secondary schools, colleges, and universities,” the bill added.
In addition, the bill also hopes to instill nationalism and strengthen patriotism among students.
The Education Department and Commission on Higher Education will provide textbooks needed to teach the life and works of the revolutionary hero.
