Facebook second top source of news for Filipinos – SWS

One in every five Filipinos use Facebook to get news rather than traditional media like newspapers and radio.

Social Weather Stations or SWS conducted the survey from March 28-31.

The SWS found that 21% of Filipino adults or at least 13.9 million adults consume news through Facebook.

Fifteen percent or at least 9 million adults use traditional media or listen to news on radio, while only 2 million read newspapers.

Television remains as the primary source of news with 60% of the adult population or 40 million individuals.

College and high school students read the news daily on social media sites.

The survey also showed that Facebook is the most popular social media site in the Philippines, with 99% of adults or about 30.3 million individuals using the social media platform.

YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Viber are also on the list.
