The Central London Employment Tribunal heard the case of a Filipina domestic helper who was abused by her Saudi diplomat employer.
The Saudi diplomat in UK allegedly pur a buzzer around the Filipina’s neck. She was even forced to work at 7AM to 11:30PM every day without any day off.
The Independent also reported that the Filipina worker was also told to eat leftovers and wear a buzzer so she will be on call 24/7.
The Pinay’s employer is Khalid Basfar’s family who works for the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Mayfair, London.
The family promised the Filipina minimum wage in exchange of working visa. The report also said that she was not allowed to go out or can only call her family twice a year.
For six months, the Filipina only received Php20, 658.00.
Basfar asked the court to dismiss the case citing diplomatic immunity.
The judge on the case however dismissed the petition citing that the Filipina was a victim of slavery and trafficking.
“The claimant is a victim of trafficking, who was exploited by the respondent and his family.”
