President Rodrigo Duterte said that the Philippine Air Force can take over the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) if issues hounding its operations will not be resolved.
“I am issuing a warning. If that NAIA is not the security is not improved there, I will order the Air Force to take over. You must remember I declared a national emergency when I started as president. And I would invoke it,” Duterte said.
Duterte however did not clarify what kind of security threat hounds NAIA.
The President made a surprise inspection early this month, which prompted Transportation officials to fix and repair Sangley Airport in Cavite.
The President said he wanted to move all domestic flights in Sangley to decongest NAIA.
Five major airlines, including Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines, signed a pledge of commitment to ensure passenger convenience, on time performance and to decongest the airport.
