The expanded maternity leave law has benefited 122,571 working women while the Social Security System (SSS) has disbursed P2.67 billion in maternity benefits in the first four months of the year.
SSS will also increase the maximum maternity financial assistance to new mothers from P32,000 to P70,000, according to SSS president and CEO Aurora Ignacio.
The increase is 15.09 percent higher than the P2.32 billion disbursed in the first quarter of 2018.
The expanded maternity leave law has mandated 60 calendar days of paid leave for normal delivery and 78 days for caesarean delivery.
