A man from Bangladesh, more popularly known as “Tree Man,” because of tree- or bark-like growth on his hands and feet wants to cut off his hands to relieve him from unbearable pain.
Abul Bajandar had 25 operations since 2016 to remove the growth on his hands and feet caused by a rare disease.
Bajandar’s doctors thought he was able to overcome the disease but last year the “Tree Man” reported a relapse.
Bajandar said his condition worsened and he was admitted to the hospital early this year.
“I cannot bear the pain anymore. I can’t sleep at night. I asked the doctors to cut off my hands so I can at least get some relief,” Bajandar said.
His family is supportive of his decision to amputate his hands.
Bajandar is suffering from epidermodysplasia verruciformis, a rare genetic condition also known as “tree man syndrome.”
