The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has announced that Metro Manila residents may soon avail the services of the country’s third telco player, Mindanao Islamic Telephone Company Inc. (Mislatel).
The DICT is set to award Mislatel’s certificate of public convenience and necessity next month.
Mislatel has posted a Php25.7 billion performance bond to ensure that the company will deliver its promise of 27 megabits per second (mbps) internet speed.
“They will start in Metro Manila, Cebu, ‘yung mga heavily-populated cities. Siguro by September or October of this year, meron na silang mga subscribers from Metro Manila,” the DICT said.
Cell sites and towers were also being set up for the third telco’s nationwide coverage.
The company promised to build a thousand cell sites in a year. The third telco also promised to raise the average internet speed to 55mbps on its fifth year.
