BREAKING: Two Filipinos killed, three others injured in train crash in NZ – envoy

Two Filipinos died while three others were injured following a car-and-train crash at a rural town near Bay of Plenty in New Zealand, the Philippines’ envoy there said today.

Ambassador Jesus Domingo said the Filipinos drove through a train crossing when it hit their car at Pongakawa School Road near Te Puke at 8.15 this morning.

“They were on their way to work apparently. We are in touch with police, employers, relatives. We can’t release their names yet,” Domingo said in an interview.

Domingo said the Filipinos arrived in New Zealand last week as fruit pickers.

“There are no other information. They are all workers and adults,” he said.

Two of the injured Filipinos were seriously injured while the other one is in stable condition, Domingo said.

The embassy, he said, will monitor their condition and will provide necessary assistance to the victims.
