The government has intensified its campaign to stop the entry of swine-fever infected meats into the country.
Fifteen meat-sniffing dogs were also made available by the Bureau of Animal Inspection (BAI) and the Agriculture Department to make sure that contaminated meat are detected upon entry.
The BAI said balikbayan boxes will be examined for pork products from countries affected by the swine fever outbreak.
Fresh, frozen, cooked and uncooked processed pork products and byproducts from China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, North Korea, Latvia, Romania, Hungary, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Moldova, South Africa and Zambia will not be given permission to enter the country, officials said.
A balikbayan from Hong Kong was recently stopped at the Clark International Airport after bringing in luncheon meat tainted by the swine fever.
