Nearly 150 Blackpink fans file complaint vs. Shopee

A total of 148 fans of the famous Korean girl group Blackpink have filed a complaint with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) against online shopping site Shopee.

It can be recalled that Blackpink’s meet-and-greet event in the Philippines on June 6 became a trending on social media after several fans claimed that they were “scammed” by Shopee which organized the event.

Fans spent thousands of pesos on random Shoppe items in order to get a free pass to the show and a chance to meet their idols in person.

However, some of them complained that they were victimized by Shopee after it sent them a message about getting a pass, only to be told at the gate that their event passes were wrongly sent.

Last week, there were only 10 fans who filed their complaints but the DTI said that the numbers quickly increased to 148 as of Friday, reported Inquirer.net.

The DTI’s Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (DTI-FTEB) said that it has filed a formal complaint against Shopee for changing their promo mechanics without the approval of the government.

If the complaint was ruled in favor of the complainant, Shopee will be fined a maximum of P300,000.

DTI-FTEB Director Ronnel Abrenica said that they are not checking the number of complainants since Shopee said that only 116 consumers received the wrong message.
