House stonewalls ABS-CBN franchise renewal

The House of Representatives dillydallied the bill renewing the franchise of ABS-CBN, one of the biggest television networks in the country.

This means that the bill needs to be re-filed in the 18th Congress.

The franchise of the broadcasting giant is set to expire on March 20,2020.

The bill renewing the franchise was proposed by Nueva Ecjia Representative Micaela Violago. The bill remained at the committee level of legislative franchises since November 2016, reported PhilStar.

Without franchise renewal, the Lopez-owned corporation will stop from operating.

President Rodrigo Duterte has been very vocal on objecting with the network’s franchise renewal.
