Japanese businessman buys 100,000 kilos of Philippine mangoes

A Japanese fruits importer is set to buy 100,000 kilos of mangoes from the Philippines following the announcement of the Agriculture Department that there is a surplus of millions of mangoes last week.

Japanese company Diamond Star Corporation will be buying huge volume of Philippine (Carabao) mangoes in time for the launch of DA’s mango program.

Diamond Star Corporation, which has been operating in the country since 1987, said it was looking to buy a huge volume of Carabao mangoes in the country this week—in time for the launching of DA’s mango marketing program on Monday.

“The Japanese company has been importing papayas, pineapple, mango, bananas and even turnips from the Philippines… It signified the intent to buy mangoes through Philippine agriculture attache to Japan Dr. Samuel Animas this week,” Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol said.

“The DA will arrange a meeting between the Japanese importers and the mango farmers of Luzon,” Piñ added.
