Teacher who uploaded photos of faculty area in CR to face charges

The teacher from Bacoor, Cavite who has complained about their school not having a proper faculty area may face legal charges, according to the school principal.

It can be recalled that Maricel Herrera, who is president of the teachers’ association in Bacoor National High School, took to Facebook to share that their school does not have enough space for their students, forcing the teachers to use a renovated comfort room as their faculty area.

She said what made the situation worse is that the teachers need to shell out money to convert the comfort room into a rest area for the faculty.

After Herrera’s post went viral, Anita Rom, school principal, reportedly clarified she never ordered the teachers to use the comfort rooms as their office, according to media accounts.

Rom said she has received a lot of negative feedback since Herrera posted her complaints on Facebook.

“Ang sinira ay hindi lang imahe ng Bacoor National High School kundi buong imahe ng DepEd (Department of Education),” the source quoted Rom as saying.

She said she is planning on filing charges of cyberlibel and destruction of government property against Herrera.

Rom also said she does not understand why the teachers chose to move to the comfort rooms when she has in fact offered the library, conference room, and social hall as alternatives.

“Ang faculty room is not mandated by the DepEd. Ang function ng teacher ay magturo at hindi magpahinga sa faculty room,” Rom said.

Rom said she has already told the teachers to remove their things from the comfort rooms.

Meantime, Herrera said she did not intend to defame the reputation of the school. She said she only wanted to raise concerns about the plight of teachers.
