One tourist dead, six others injured due to ‘lightning strike’ in Siargao

Manila: A vacation has gone wrong for at least seven tourists after lightning struck them at Naked Island in Siargao.

One was confirmed dead, while six others were severely injured in the incident, according to reports.

A netizen tweeted their experience and how rescue efforts took a long time after the lightning incident.

“Kanina, may near death experience ako. Nag-island-hopping kami. Papunta na kami sa last island which is yung Naked Island. Maulan. Kumukulog and kumikidlat,” netizen @eambasco said on Twitter.

While on Naked Island, tourists tried to reach their boat but some of them were already hit by lightning.

“So, takbuhan kami papuntang boat. Ayun pala talaga, yung kidlat na may mga tinamaan na tao. Yung 2 naming kasama sa boat (joiners kami) tinamaan. Yung isa humihinga pa. Yung isa wala nang pulse,” she added.

She even said that the one who lost his pulse turned violet and immediately died. She has no update on the other tourists who received medical attention.

“Yung walang pulse kanina. He’s dead. Yung isa conscious pero may neck burns. Grabe ka-trauma.” she said.

In an exclusive report by GMA News, a woman seen wearing a necklace was injured during the tragedy.
