Manila, Philippines- The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGASA) said the country can anticipate the onset of rainy season next week.
The weather bureau expects the rainy season to be declared on the first and second week of June.
“Hindi pa talaga nasa-satisfy ang criteria for the onset based sa ating monitoring, the onset will be either during the first week or second week of June,” Pagasa Deputy Administrator Flaviana Hilario said in a press briefing in Malacañang.
“The amount of rainfall recorded in the western side of the country has to be at least 25 millimeters over a five-day period, and the ‘habagat’ has to be the dominant wind system in the country,” Hilario said.
The weather bureau added that declaring the onset of rainy season in June can still be considered normal.
Filipinos can also expect five to eight tropical cyclones starting June, officials said.
The El Niño phenomenon may still persist until the end of the year, they added.
