54% of Middle East professionals expect pay hike

Fifty-four percent of professionals in the Middle East are expecting to receive salary increase this year, according to a study by Bayt.com and YouGov.

The study, Middle East and North Africa Salary Survey 2019, also found that 17 percent of respondents are hoping for as high as a 17-percent increase in salary, while majority expect a pay raise of 1 to 5 percent.

The survey covered 3,800 respondents in the Middle East from March to April.

A quarter of the respondents said they receive bonus. Six in 10 of the respondents receive a wage consisting of basic pay and benefits, while 16 percent receive basic pay with commissions and benefits. Twenty-three percent receive only a basic pay.

Less than half of the respondents have personal medical insurance, while 16 percent have health insurance for their families. Only 27 percent enjoy transportation allowance.

More than half of respondents in United Arab Emirates have been employed for more than six years, while a quarter have worked for more than a decade.

Meanwhile, a separate study by Gulf recruiter and training institute Nadia Global found that the current average age of employees in UAE is under 30.

Hiring managers also search for employees that have skills needed in digital transformation. Salary increase of 3.5 to 5 percent is expected to be given to UAE workforce.
