End excessive politicking, start nation building, says Palace

After the winners of the midterm elections were announced, Malacañang is calling for an end to “politicking”.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said this is the perfect time, with most of the senators who got elected are allies of President Rodrigo Duterte, to start nation-building.

There were no opposition candidates that made it to the “Magic 12.”

“After a grueling battle, it is hoped that the protagonists lay down their political swords, accept the will of the electorate and bow to the majesty of their sovereign voice, by giving their preferred choices a chance of leading the country towards progress,” GMA News quoted Panelo as saying.

“We call on everyone in all sides of the political spectrum to have a moratorium in what appears to most of us as excessive politicking that has only caused more divisions amongst us,” he added.

Some critics already raised concerns on the consequences of having a lot of pro-administration bets in the 18th Congress which opens in July.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III, however, assured the public that the Senate will remain independent.
