Joko Widodo wins second term as Indonesian President

Manila, Philippines– Indonesian President Joko Widodo has successfully secured another term as President.

Widodo beat his rival Prabowo Subianto, a former military general. Widodo garnered 55.5 percent of votes while Subianto received 44.5 percent.

Widodo, 57, outperformed his 67-year-old strongman opponent in 21 of the country’s 34 province.

Prabowo plans to protest the results accusing the incumbent president of electoral fraud.

“We are concerned about the enormous fraud committed in the general elections that we have just carried out,” Prabowo said in an interview with CNN.

The losing presidential candidate also appealed to his supporters not to resort to violence and stay calm and peaceful despite their defeat.

This is not the first time Widodo and Prabowo fought in the presidential race. Their first face-off was in 2014.

Widodo’s proclamation is set in October.
