Manila, Philippines– The family and relatives of slain Overseas Filipina Worker in Kuwait, Carmelita Dayag were all excited for her to come home, it was gathered.
Officials said Dayag was set to arrive in the country this week. But the excitement faded when news about her horrible death allegedly in the hands of her employer reached them.
“Nag-away po sila dati ng amo niya pero naayos naman” Eugenio Dayag Jr., one of the relatives, said.
In light of this, Malacanang said there is a need to review the agreement between the Philippine and Kuwaiti governments to ensure that rights of Filipino workers are upheld.
“I think we should because, according to (Labor) Secretary (Silvestre) Bello, there has been a breach in the agreement,” Panelo told a press briefing.
The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding last year following the death of Joanna Demafelis, also a household service worker like Dayag. Demafelis’ body was found in a freezer.
Her death prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to implement a deployment ban in Kuwait.
Bello said Dayag was rushed to Al Sabag Hospital, Tuesday but was later on declared dead on arrival.
The labor chief reported that her body was bruised; doctors found a cucumber in her private part.
