Two successive submarine earthquakes were reported today, May 20 at the northern and southern points of the Philippines.
A magnitude 4.5 submarine earthquake hit the waters of Ilocos Norte near Pagudpud, while another struck the Celebes Sea near Sultan Kudarat, with a magnitude of 4.3.
The submarine earthquake at Ilocos Norte was reportedly felt at lower intensities at surrounding provinces: Intensity 3 at Bangui, Burgos, and Pasuquin, Ilocos norte, with instrumental intensities at Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte that felt intensity 3 while intensity 2 shook Laoag City. Sinait, Ilocos Sur and Claveria, Cagayan both experienced intensity 1.
Phivolcs reports that neither aftershocks nor tsunami warnings are expected.
