Former OFW in UAE appeals for help in rare cancer fight

Manila, Philippines– Maria Socorro Macapagal’s life changed when she was diagnosed with a rare type of ovarian cancer in 2016.

Macapagal used to be an Overseas Filipina Worker (OFW) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She lost her job in 2018 and flew back to the Philippines because she could no longer carry out her tasks at work.

Right after her diagnosis, she frequently underwent treatment at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital in Abu Dhabi.

She has undergone 30 chemotherapy sessions and two major surgeries. The 51-year old still hopes that a miracle would happen and heal her.

“Despite my stage 3 cancer, which is resistant to treatment, I still hold on to my faith that God will make a miracle by healing me,’’ Macapagal said.

The former OFW is now in Quezon City together with her mother who is also battling a life-threating condition, diabetes.

Macapagal had asked a major broadsheet in raising P450,000 for her scheduled three chemotherapy sessions and P113,000 for another laboratory test.

She said that the tests will help her understand the nature of tumor she has and what kind of treatment would be more effective.

For those interested to help, Macapagal can be reached at 0945-3486410. Donations can be deposited in her BDO account (Maria Socorro Macapagal, account number 002-1111-493-53).
