The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has expressed confidence that winning senatorial candidates and party-list groups will be proclaimed on Tuesday.
“It’s a pretty sure bet that we are going to have a proclamation tomorrow… party-lists in the morning, then senators in the evening,” Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said.
The proclamation was initially scheduled on Sunday but it was postponed as the canvassing is still ongoing.
The poll body is waiting for five more Certificates of Canvass (COCs), with number of registered voters: Isabela Province with 1,050,681; Japan with 76,166; Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with 326,620; USA with 228,472; and Nigeria with 1,999 for a total of 1,683,938 votes.
There is a special election in Isabela, and the COC from the province is expected at 7 p.m.
For the National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) chairperson Augusto Lagman, the country should shift to manual counting of votes in the 2022 elections because transparency in counting is more important than the faster counting of votes.
Namfrel earlier slammed the defective vote counting machines, SD cards, and Voter Registration Verification Machines.
To recall, Comelec’s transparency server bogged down due to Java platform error for seven hours after the elections closed on May 13.
