Manila, Philippines–At least nine resorts in El Nido, Palawan are facing charges due to pollution, according to the Environment Management Bureau – Mimaropa office.
The government’s move to issue cease and desist orders against the establishments is part of the ongoing El Nido rehabilitation project.
The resorts were accused of discharging wastewater without proper permits and are below government standards. The resorts were also charged with violating the Clean Water Act of 2004.
The orders were released Saturday. The resorts facing sanctions are the following:
* El Nido Sea Shell Resorts and Hotel
* Doublegem Beach Resort and Hotel
* Buko Beach Resort
* Panorama Resort (Mangonana Inc)
* Four Seasons Seaview Hotel
* Stunning Republic Beach Resort
* Sava Beach Bar/Sava Nest Egg Inc
* El Nido Beach Hotel
* The Nest El Nido Resorts and Spa, Inc
The world famous tourist destination is under the government’s rehabilitation program. The tourism department however clarified that there’s no need to shut down the entire island like what happened to Boracay last year.
