Manila, Philippines– Actor and incoming Senator Lito Lapid admits that he’s hurt with the criticisms he has been receiving after he secured a Senate seat in the recently held midterm elections.
Lapid is currently at 7th place with over 16 million votes based on the PPCRV’s partial and unofficial tally.
“12 years din ako naging Senador . ‘Yan pa rin ang issue sa akin, hindi raw marunong.” Lapid said in an interview.
The actor turned lawmaker also laments on how celebrities are being used to promote causes and boost a politician’s career. But the treatment gets different if a celebrity wins an elective seat.
“Pagdating ng eleksyon puro artista ginagamit. Kapag may artistang naupo, binabatikos pa. Eh, syempre kami naman eh nasasaktan naman kami dahil ba sa hindi kami nakapag-aral ng college kamukha ko,” Lapid explained.
Without the administration endorsement and political capital, Lapid also said that this is one of his hardest campaigns in his political life.
He said he was fortunate to visit all provinces during the 90-day campaign through the help of his two former Senate staff members.
Lapid is also planning to support the legislative agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte and will be part of the Senate’s majority. (Rappler photo)
