Pacquiao willing to help Dela Rosa on Senate work

Manila, Philippines— Senator and PDP-Labana Campaign Manager Manny Pacquiao said he will volunteer to teach winning Senator Ronald Bato Dela Rosa about legislative work.

In a post-election press conference by PDP Laban today, Pacquaio defended Dela Rosa from critics who frowned on Bato’s remarks about his lack of understanding of the lawmaking process.

“Hindi naman sinabi natin walang alam si Bato. May alam siya pero ang ibig siguro niyang sabihin yung proseso ng Senado, yung rules ng Senate,” Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao added that he is willing to share his knowledge on Senate rules and procedures. And since Dela Rosa and other winning candidates will be taking over in July they still have enough time to prepare.

“Meron bang seminar diyan o ano bang training diyan para matutunan ko ‘yung paano gawin ‘yung batas. Ano ba ang mga trabaho namin diyan sa Senado? Kung merong ganun, I will take that opportunity para matuto ako,” Dela Rosa said Tuesday night in an interview.

Pacquiao recommended that Dela Rosa study at the Development Academy of the Philippines.

The boxing champ-turned-lawmaker also started as a newbie in politics when he first ran as South Cotabato Representative in 2007 but lost. In 2010 he ran and won as Saranggani Representative.

Pacquaio’s stint as congressman was not without controversy. His absences in House sessions and boxing matches affected his political career.
