Man who bit police officer’s hand in Dubai gets cleared of assault charge

The Filipino who was accused of consuming drugs and physically attacking a police officer in Dubai has been cleared of the assault charges against him.

To recall, the Dubai Criminal Court initially sentenced the Filipino man to five years in jail and ordered him to pay a fine of Dh20,000. He was also sentenced to deportation after serving his jail term.

However, the Filipino man was acquitted of the assualt charge after the Dubai Appeal Court reversed the primary ruling due to a lack of evidence. It upheld the lower court’s order on the drug charge, reported Khaleej Times.

According to court records, the incident happened in July 2018 outside the defendant’s residence in Al Quoz while the anti-narcotics police officer was taking him into custody.

During the arrest, the Filipino, who was under the influence of two types of drugs, bit the officer’s hand before hitting the officer’s other hand in an attempt to escape.

The man denied consuming drugs and buting the police officer but medical tests showed that he consumed crystal meth and amphetamine before the arrest and was initially found guilty on both counts.
