Manila, Philippines– In sports, they call it an “upset,” when a contender loses in his own turf.
And this exactly was what happened in the Moreno-Estrada Manila mayoralty race where the former president and actor lost in his own barangay.
Former Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno won by a landslide victory, defeating Manila’s two-term mayor with 336, 355 votes compared to his opponent’s 197, 378. Former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim finished third.
The Batang Maynila’s victory did not sit well with the incumbent mayor.
“Bakit ako mag-co-concede talagang pinroject ako…lahat ng survey from the start tapos ngayon biglang si Isko nanalo,” Erap said in an interview.
The former President also couldn’t accept the fact that Moreno defeated him in his own barangay in Sta. Mesa.
Estrada is not the only one from his political family who struggled to keep their posts.
Estrada’s daughter Jerika Ejercito did not make it as a councilor of Manila fourth district.
His sons JV Ejericto and Jinggoy Estrada are not in the winning circle of the Senatorial race.
His grandaughter Janella Estrada fails to keep San Juan City’s top post. Estrada’s first political stint was in San Juan in 1969.
