Explosions rock two towns in Mindanao in the run up to the elections

A loud explosion early morning on Monday stirred the town of Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao, GMA News reported.

The incident was captured by a CCTV positioned just outside the municipal hall compound, where election officers are to distribute materials to members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs).

Two suspects on a motorcycle were seen leaving the area just about a 100 meters from the municipal hall.

No one was reported hurt in the incident.

In Cotabato City, two explosions were recorded by authorities on Sunday evening.

Police Lieutenant Teofisto Ferrer, Jr. of City Police Precinct 2, said the explosions were believed to be caused by 40mm mortar fired by unknown persons using an m-79 grenade launcher tube.

No one was hurt but it is just outside the fence of the right-wing side of the City hall compound in Purok Omar, Malagapas, Rosary Heights 10.

An investigation into the incidents is being conducted at this time.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has placed the entire Mindanao as a category red election hot spot.

A red classification may warrant the motu proprio declaration of Comelec control over the area concerned.
