Dubai authorities confirm fake tuna brand not available in UAE

A tuna brand has recently gone viral across UAE residents after seeing that the contents were made of synthetic fiber.

The brand of the tuna was ‘Angelmo’, which was produced in China as per the label and has made its rounds across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. With contents made from inedible material, netizens were very concerned as rumors circulated that the tuna made its way to the shelves of Dubai’s supermarkets.

The Dubai Municipality shut down the rumors through an official statement and confirmed that the ‘Angelmo’ brand was not registered with the Food Safety Department. This means that the brand doesn’t have the permission to be sold to the local market.

“The Food Safety Department at the municipality inspects all imported food shipments and ensures that they are all safe for consumption. Additionally, 166 samples of canned tuna from different brands were collected and were found to be safe for human consumption,” said the municipality in a statement as per a report from Gulf News.

Residents have also been advised to confirm the validity of any rumors circulating on social media by contacting the toll-free hotline 800 900 or by sending a message through WhatsApp at +971 50 107 7799.
